How to Make Fake Water w/ Gelatin

Hi Divas! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend thus far.  Today’s #SimplisticSaturday post is a very simple DIY.  As you know when you place real flowers in vases, you have to add water. Well, we are going to use that same concept for artificial flowers, except we are going to use fake water. Yep, you read that correctly, fake water.  This concept uses gelatin to make realistic looking water for artificial flowers. Now of course you can purchase this water-gel, but what’s the fun in that?! If you want to get adventurous, then follow the steps below to make your own fake water.

What I used:

Prepare unflavored gelatin per instructions on the box, using half of the amount of water recommended on the package.

See pictures of the process below.

Empty gelatin packet(s) in bowl. The size of the vase determines the number of packets used.

Slowly stir in boiled water. Stir for about 2-3 minutes until all of the gelatin has dissolved. Remove any chunks that may have formed.

Once gelatin has dissolved, pour mixture into vase and chill for about 30 minutes, or until the gelatin is firm.

Once the gelatin is firm, insert the flowers. Be very careful when placing the arrangement in the vase.  Constantly moving the stems will disturb the gelatin, leaving marks.

You may notice the amber color of the gelatin, this is to provide a more realistic look as most flowers tend to discolor the water.

Basically, if you can make Jell-O, you can do this. Give it a try and tell me what you think. I found several tutorials online for this and they are all basically the same. Simply use unflavored gelatin and follow the directions on the package.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

As always, STAY GLAM!
